i have removed global app menu prefer have minimize, maximize, close buttons on right side of each app. did no problem in 12.04. did upgrade 12.10 , noticed chrome, chromium , firefox use global menu. have done following: sudo apt-get autoremove appmenu-gtk appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-qt have disabled firefox extension. removed corresponding firefox package still have global menu. tried gconf apparently not work in 12.10. tried dconf , found fix on google: org > gnome > desktop > wm > preferences, "button_layout" on right panel. here problem, after desktop, not have 'wm'. reset unity , got message saying wm missing. rebooted , opened chrome , still no fix. clicked maximize , once chrome not maximized anymore, minimize, maximize, close buttons show in chrome. same firefox! ideas? stumped. firefox , chrome work fine in kde plasma , gnome when maximized. sorry long post!

right using actions automate creation of 3d mockups. actions work well, there seem limitations can't around , assume scripting need implement next.     here basic flow:   artwork created > saved dropbox folder   another mac watches folder > automator script runs > opens image ps droplet >   runs 1 action open , process 2 different 3d mockups   saves final mockup images new folder in dropbox     this works quite well, couple things:   i can drop 1 image file @ time. more , first runs, rest ignored. when saving final mockup images, name of file name of mockup psd , overwrites each time.   i able drop many source image files dropbox folder , have automation go through each , every file. each final 3d mockup image saved original filename of source file image.   do need scripting this?   if matters using photoshop cs5 on mac osx 10.9.1. don't have javascript experience speak of, can figure things out little hand holding. can share ps action if helps.   thank you!   messa

hi, have installed , configured freeradius service on ubuntu machine. plan use freeradius authenticate users via mac address , 802.1 x eap. problem while freeradius gives "auth-type = accept" after passing tests, user can't connect internet , booted network uses freeradius auth in less minute. there no message in freeradius debug mode when happens, i'm bit lost here. thing worth of note using ruckus zonedirector manage our networks, , there authentication test in it, used check if works ok. problem here gives failed result settings give auth-type = accept, if go , remove auth checks in sites-enabled/default config file, gives success. there definetly wrong configs. i've been following plain mac-auth guide accomplish whatever have now, still needs tinkering. problem have no idea start. here log of happens when user connects freeradius guarded network: code: ready process requests. rad_recv: access-request packet host 192.168

hello, using ubuntu 12.10, , have installed many desktop environments in addition unity, default one. problem now, in gdm, when click on ubuntu icon select desktop environment want use, list quite long, , goes beyond end of screen, can select no desktop environment, because can't click anymore on ok @ bottom of list. have installed gnome, gnome classic, lubuntu-desktop , xubuntu-desktop. have tried remove them, still not disapper list. not re-install system, have easy solution this.. way, now, when start , switch off computer, no more purple sceen written ubuntu , 5 dots under it, lubuntu blue screen. know how solve this ? thankyou! you might have installed old version ox linux, ihad problem can remove different packages using synaptic manager, if don't have try "sudo apt-get install synaptic" should able delete packages relating different environments Fo

first of all, apologise in advance if i'm posting in wrong section of forum. i've been thinking lately of upgrading ram 1 of machines make work better, i'm confused in choice make. current ram configuration (reported speccy). would've wanted keep 256mb (pc3200) stick , add 1gb 1 alongside it, pc slow hell , can't launch many apps/programs @ same time. motherboard's (p4mam2-v) manual says has 2 184-pin unbuffered ddr200/ddr266 ddr sdram slots , supports 2gb in total capacity. find strange speccy reports motherboard having 3 slots, can see 2 on motherboard. what's that? if wanted 1gb pc3200 ddr400 stick, work on mb? btw, what's relation between pc#, ddr# , mhz? , speaking of latter, i've seen shops labelling sticks 400mhz pc3200, read somewhere pc3200 has actual limit of 200mhz generaly can install ddr 400 [pc3200] in slots have [ddr266 - pc2100] - run @ speed of motherboar

i have several programs need use , not have linux versions , there nothing more can try them work on ubuntu. decided had re-install windows, when tried, said couldn't because hard drive (2 partitions) not right format. need able install windows again? windows has have primary (sda1 thru sda4) ntfs formated partition boot flag. or unallocated space can create primary ntfs partition. windows 7 want 2 partitions first small 100mb boot/repair partition. if have preformatted partition totally install partition. either way should make windows repaircd or usb have way repair windows if have issues. hi all, appears @ beginning of year, dolphin lost column view feature (see this blog post, in comments ). find incredibly irritating, , can't find other kde file managers might provide me alternative - neither krusader nor konqueror seem offer column view. missing anything? there kde alternatives? non kde options? marlin looks gtk3 file manager under active development , offers column view. guess try gnustep's gworkspace, still being actively developed? else? understand dolphin codebase column view hard maintain, can express frustration @ downgrade... might switch desktop environment on this. take @ midnight commander. i have multiple users here running windows 8  , acrobat reader xi (11.0.05) , when click 'save as' save pdf viewing, acrobat crashes every time.   is there resolution crashing probelm ?   i have tried uninstalling (using cleanup tool well) , reinstalling program, i have tried rolling earlier version of xi so far nothing has worked.     any insight or resolution appreciated. uninstalled reader 11.0.5 ran acrobat cleanup tool v2 installed acrobat reader 11.0.6 still have same issue.   narrowed down pdf files opened network drive.   if copy pdf local drive of pc can open , "save as" successfully.   if open pdf mapped network drive, , "save as"  acrobat reader crashes every time.   unfortunately our work shared network drives not our local pc's     . hey guys, first time here , first foray world of ubuntu anyway, downloaded latest version website today, burned onto dvd , i'm trying install onto 100gb partition created os. beginning of installation have select want install it, everytime try , install onto partition keeps telling me "root file system not defined." i've gone settings of partition want use , i've alternated between boot loader's between dos & windows no difference, file system set ntfs, doesn't seem anything. can offer me advice on may going wrong? guys!! edit: don't know if worth mentioning, have install of windows 7 & windows 8 running on own seperate partitions too!! i don't know how when installed ubuntu dual boot, didn't have partition selected before hand let ubuntu installer create partition , install. hi, problem i've had before have never figured out. have mythbuntu system keeps registering keypresses never happened. isn't mythtv problem though, happens in terminal windows , other non-mythtv programs. basically, symptom - keypresses (usually direction keys, not limited those) being registered , causing changes without such keypresses happening. occurs if there no keyboard attached. in mythtv involves scrolling , down menus, changing menus , other effects. in terminal windows it's largely ^]] , other such characters appearing repeatedly. i've tried checking dmesg , error logs i'm not seeing anything. make suggestions causing it?
