Problem with CFAPPLICATION setdomain cookies

i have cf8.01 website app.  in past hasn't been big problem when users access typing "xyz.com" , later (but within life of session) type in "www.xyz.com" - when second access prompted login again because session xyz.com doesn't exist.

but i'm working on new functionality involve emailing them link report on website.  it's problem because link isn't going work unless know whether or not use "www." don't forced login again  (presuming clicked within life of session).

i test of cgi vars see how go page (www. or not in url), seems should problem solved using domain cookies.  included setdomaincookies="yes" in cfapplication tag in application.cfm, had effect.  created test case page did cfdump of session structure, set session var , did dump.  accessed xyz.com , got expected results (first dump didn't have var, second 1 did).  did same thing www.xyz.com - expectation both dumps have var, results identical the previous test - second dump showed var.

anyone run this?  there else should doing cf uses domain cookies hold sessionid info?  otherwise stable, legacy, cf8.01 app, i'd rather not big changes moving j2ee sessions, on older version of cf.  @ moment, moving cf9 or cf10 isn't option.

thanks

reed
