Thread: Installing Ubuntu on Powerbook G4 OSX 10.4 - Help!!

hi,

best start fact i'm no expert simple terms without acronyms work best me

have powerbook g4 17" running tiger 10.4.11

downloaded ubuntu 12.04.1 lts 32bit , burned disk. copied usb.

after reading instructions on how install loaded disk , restarted, holding down 'c' boot disk. went straight osx. tried booting firmware , typing 'boot cd' , got error

'boot cd load-size=0 adler32=1 load size small'

tried booting firmware , typed 'boot usb 0/disk@1:2, \\yaboot'

tried replacing 'usb 0' 'usb 1' , 'usb 2'. have 2 ports guessed 1 plugged had named either 0, 1 or 2. each time screen flicked briefly text appearing half way down left side, flicking grey blank screen no entry sign.

read information saying partition required install ubuntu when tried message appears in disk utility saying can't partition because disk contains start volume.

thinking error message booting disk 'load-size small' wondered if maybe i'd burnt wrong software. disk space taken download under 700mb, right?

looked on ubuntu website , discovered many different places download page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/powerpcdownloads

@ point realised installing ubuntu on older mac no means simple task.

can please me out here? seems ubuntu way i'll able keep fantastic piece of kit running safely.

used have ubuntu 12.04 installed on powerbook 12" g4
(until started messing around, that's other story..)

had no problem install ubuntu 12.04 ppc

make sure have ppc version of ubuntu (mac (powerpc) , ibm-ppc (power5) desktop cd)
=> ubuntu-12.04-desktop-powerpc.iso

burn on disk described on ubuntu homepage, boot mac holding 'alt' key , chose cd boot from, may take wile until mac recognize disk, should able follow nice graphical install guidance. if nothing happen, wait powerbook took ages boot, patient.

up until 3pm yesterday, illustrator cs6 , photoshop cs6 worked without hitch @ 3pm, of sudden message 'could not place because source rectangle empty'. doing dragging 1 of our company logos photoshop illustrator .eps file holds our graphics. have done hundreds of timnes before , either way or highlight image in illustrator , paste photoshop. either way still getting error message.   nothing has happened in settings (that aware of) , google gives me numerous results of point @ fact may have corrupt .eps file. not case. if try , drag , drop or copy , paste various different fiele .jpg .png , .eps or .ai have same issue.   i uninstalled photoshop morning re-installed see if fix issue no such luck.   as is, affecting work , sure there workarounds ie. if go file/open , open file way works no eps file holds many seperate graphics once opened in photoshop, seperate images become 1 image.   can this? are getting problem when copying/dragging 1 specific illustrator document or affecti

Adobe Font Folio 7.0 or just 7?

someone deleted my question about adobe font folio 7. looking informations related adobe font folio 7 released march 13, 1995 , can not find ( not even a picture of original packaging). know if, later versions, called 7.0 or 7. thank much. i seem recall called adobe font folio v7.0 , , @ age memory fails me enough can't state under oath; quick google searck on precisely adobe font folio v7.0 returns bunch of hits on pirate software sites.  don't know if that's reliable enough you, until adobe staff chimes in, that's best got far.  More discussions in Type & Typography adobe
