Thread: Failure to boot with 12.10 & 12.04.1 - boots fine with 11.10

i've been experiencing problems latest ubuntu stable releases. i've installed 12.10, 12.04.1 , 11.10 usb, , function fine in liveusb mode.

however, after installation, when attempting boot either 12.10 or 12.04.1, kernel panic within first few seconds of selecting ubuntu grub. caps lock light flashes, , option hold down power button on laptop switch off.

11.10 boots fine (i'm typing now), windows vista. laptop getting old, , have bought replacement, far know, there no hardware faults beyond battery lasts 5 minutes.

it's been 2+ years since following dev releases of ubuntu, i've forgotten of learned. here's lspci in case helps:

it's laptop circa 2007, intel t5450 dual core, 8600m gs nvidia dedicated graphics.

, extremely appreciated! i'd love upgrade precise/quantal whilst waiting new laptop arrive.

i've installed latest security updates 11.10. bumped kernel version 3.0.0-12 -26. same error -26 - is, cannot boot @ all.

if help, should able capture picture of output screen when kernel panic happens, booting -26 recovery mode.

clarify, using amd64 version in cases.
