Thread: 12.04 Dual mode with tv gives low resolution (Nvidia)

i can't dual mode work correctly.

graphics card nvidia geforce4 ti 4200 agp8x (old, know) 2 vga outputs, 1 s-video , 1 va-output (cinch). when connect 1 monitor vga-out, screen resulotion 1024x768, fine. when connect scart-in of tv va-out of pc tv working great resolution drops 800x600 both screens , screen same on monitor , tv. in 'display' there 1 monitor (with label 'laptop' although use desktop), no second one.

i want have dual mode monitor 1024x768 , tv @ 800x600 is actualy ok. how can this?

i'm using ubuntu 12.04 , think it's using nouveau driver, not nvidia driver. when start nvidia x server settings says: "you not appear using nvidia x driver. please edit x configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` root), , restart x server." @ 'additional drivers' says "nvidia accelerated graphics driver (post-release updates) (version current)" it's indicated "driver enabled, not in use". (there "nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version current)" without "post-release updates".)
after sudo nvidia-xconfig resolution on 1 monitor drops 800x600 without connecting tv.

here outputs:

apt-cache policy nvidia-current

have visited nvidia.com>drivers website?

geforce4 ti 4200 & linux, recommends 100.14.11 driver, [under 'legacy' drivers] sure not work recent version of ubuntu , xserver.

work recent versions of 173 driver, if not listed in additional drivers, should available in synaptic, 'nvidiia-173', v.173.14.35.
will try that. don't know how old nvidia geforce4 ti 4200 agp8x respond. nvidia website says:

"the 96.43.xx driver supports following set of gpus:
note: support 96.43.xx series discontinued. no further releases series planned.
...
geforce4 ti 4200 agp8x"

@ nvidia.com found latest nvidia legacy driver linux display driver version 96.43.23 (september 14, 2012) supports geforce4 ti 4200 agp8x while version173.14.36 doesn't support graphics card.

think work?
read lot incompability between ubuntu , nvidia legacy drivers...
can't nouveau job?

here can search nvidia legacy drivers linux older graphics cards: http://www.nvidia.com/download/find.aspx?lang=en-us.
