How do I get more proficient with the Pen tool

i can cut image shapes images using pen tool.- normal pen tool. have cut several shapes, while learning. rgularly. cut flower shapes flower plants, used careful, because flowers have variations in shapes.

my  question, is, expertise in using pen tool , become pro, should learn, draw shapes - geometric shapes etc using pen tool. mean drawing, , not cutting images. if practie such drawing useful.

does matter long using pen tool? stop , think it, cutting images same drawing using reference.

 

you clip art , trace that. practice on pictures web. take pictures , trace them.

 

if feel comfortable enough, might try hiding image, draw pen, see how close were. develop minds eye , strengthen connection between mind , hand.
