Thread: 12.04 - Wireless Dongle Sees Network, Won't Connect - Realtek RTL8188CUS


hello,

i'm having consistent issues wireless dongle. sees network attempting connect to, not consistently connect.

have figured out way connect, since computer wife's, i'm attempting simplify process as possible.

right now, fresh boot-up, attempt connect network, ask me user password, ask me network password repeatedly until gives up. can force work letting go through process bit (attempting connect not working), taking dongle out, , putting in. press little button on (not sure really), haven't determined if makes difference. when way, dongle connect, run same problems anytime it's been inactive while or upon restarting. also, connection seems slower should - .5 mbps , down (checked @ speedtest.net).

i've read bunch of different posts people same chipset (realtek rtl8188cus) having similar issues, people having similar issues different wireless adapters in lubuntu. far can tell i'm not doing fix problem, problem implementation - i'm new linux/ubuntu.

i'm hoping that, help, can make thing work correctly on startup without having pull out dongle every time.

good news:

found way connect wireless router using lubuntu 12.10.

bad news:

step 1. disable all security on wireless router (either resetting or through configuration page)

step 2. login computer would

step 3. go wireless connection , choose wireless network

step 4. enter login password step 2 when asked wireless athentication

wouldn't call "fix" obvious reasons, maybe point more knowledgeable linux right direction real workaround. if offer "quick fix" temporary solution needing working infrastructure , running in hurry.

make sure:

you disable ssid broadcast , make network hidden if think might using solution short period of time.
