Thread: Test Driving Ubuntu 6.06 LTS

greetings !

septuagenarian loves computing , came through windows environment. old timer gave me ubuntu 6.06 lts , told me try , if move on later version . present os win xp , hd choc full of files. not want install ubuntu - want test drive , see pros vis-a-vis windows. googling instructions leave me in doubts should ; fellow poster walk me through steps ...thanks.

welcome forums.

6.06 pretty old , not supported more. better download more recent version. older computers cannot run full ubuntu. other versions lubuntu or xubuntu work older systems.

if have livecd, should able insert cd , in bios choose boot cd. slow running cd not hard drive functional.

need room on hard drive if wanted full install. , ntfs partitions 30% free space work well.

know if computer can boot usb flash device? 2006, bios updated allow booting flash drives. if older may have use lubuntu.

can download newer versions of ubuntu , copy cd or flash drive. instructions here:
