Thread: 12.04.1 Server 64-bit and Actiontec PM560LKI hardware PCI modem

i'm not sure forum post in. i'll start here since first step getting hardware work.

i'm trying set dial-in server, people can make dial-up connections network. (reason: tech support work , have clients need dial-up connections. access numbers long-distance , might connect after twenty-third attempt. want done troubleshooting sort of connection problems, , have favorite local phone company work if there's further problems.) have far old acer aspire t180, amd athlon 64 3800+ cpu, , 1.5gb ram, running ubuntu 12.04.1 lts server 64-bit. and, actiontec pm560lki hardware pci modem, manufacturer claims should work linux without needing drivers. (http://www.actiontec.com/support/pro...ls.php?pid=145) but, haven't been able ubuntu @ all, either in machine or dell optiplex gx270 pentium 4 ubuntu 12.10 server 32-bit. modem can make calls under windows, think modem hardware ok. here's know far.

code:

i've tried use minicom manually dial second phone line. never rings phone, , minicom times out , retries. should research next modem working?

and, after modem's working, i'll have dial-in server configuration. i've been researching mgetty , ppp settings, of articles several years old , not structured version of ubuntu. i'll have start new thread if modem working , still can't of server configurations work.

never mind. debian 6.0.6-amd64 knows how make work. anyway.
