Thread: which method of forwarding?-10.04 server

ok server pass wired lan clients through eth1 eth0 , adsl modem router. internet--adsl modem/router--eth0--server--eth1--switch--lan. realize there several ways this. occured me has work together, plan use: ufw firewall, samba windows file server, dhcp3 serve lan. i'd choose between setting forwarding in: iptables, ufw, dnsmasq, bind9,sysctl.conf, , net-manager(?). i've started down path several times discover later installed package or service creates conflict, time want clean , simple.
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
address 10.10.0.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1

have started dhcp3 range of 10.10.0.10 10.10.0.150
testclient getting ip 10.10.0.10 won't ping past 127.0.0.1
did make attempt @ forwarding, tired last night , may have made entries both iptables approach , sysctl.conf , i'm @ juncture format (again) , start over, or clean up. want guidance here don't waste more time.
