Thread: Hard Reboot Resulted in Strange Settings

hi, have been lurker @ site while because information on these boards priceless , has helped me countless times haven't had many unique problems , haven't posted much. encountered strange problem , don't know make of it.

here's happened:
running mozilla in wkspace1, kile (latex editor) , pdfviewer in wkspace2. reason, system froze while opening new directory in kile , system started work extremely hard fan running full blast. have no idea stuck in alt+sysreq +[r,e,i,u,b] sequence didn't @ all, not alt+sysreq+b should give kill signal regardless of current state. hardbooted system restart. boot time slower normal wasn't out of ordinary me. when got desktop, found windows wouldn't resize anymore if dragged edges , terminal displayed background through open windows.

think using unity2d rather 3d before, , way things were. tried changing 3d @ login menu , saw option 2d. when switch between workspaces, no longer shown happening in each workspace, smaller white screen 4 grey boxes telling me if workspace empty or not.


*edit*: ran terminal commands install unity , ubuntu-desktop , works fine now- no strange settings.
googled around , found these effects things manage compizconfig, couldn't find unity 2d problem. had compizconfig package few days ago, removed because 1 thing wanted fix wasn't worth effort, , worried might stupid. when removed package, terminal 'always on top' setting still active compizconfig didn't think of because don't know unity or compizconfig unity.

these effects aren't disastrous means, have system way want , not have worry strange behaviours this.
