Thread: need help in setting up a shared folder between Xubuntu and Win 7 laptop


hi,

having trouble getting ubuntu desktop allow windows 7 laptop share folder on desktop.
use work, doesn't

setup this:
desktop = 12.04.01 running xubuntu xfce.
6 years old , not have wireless networking built in connected ethernet cable wireless router.
laptop windows 7 connects wirelessly router.

want folder on desktop can use transfer files , forth between , laptop.
use work, have bought usb wifi adaptor, plugged desktop , worked fine,
except not don't have shared folder anymore, whether of not have desktop connected wired or wireless.
( samba installed, can see running doing 'sudo netstat -atulpen' or 'ps -a' )

when try right click on folder want share this:

'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: failed add share xu7. error operation not permitted
i can sudo nautilus , it, can't user.

appreciated.

it sounds not member of right group. run following command , see if member of sambashare group:

id
if not add youself:
code:
sudo gpasswd -a your_user_name sambashare
then logoff , logon again.
