Thread: Cannot change Terminal default encoding

hi,

i'm on precise pangolin 12.04 lts

i've lot of custom code outputs text iso-8859-1 encoding terminal.

installed such encoding, , made default. verified desktop uses encoding.

also, contents of /etc/default/locale lang=es_es.iso-8859-1

however, when open terminal, default encoding utf-8. can navigate terminal menu bar, , choose iso-8859-1 encoding, it's annoyance everytime open terminal.

how can change terminal default iso-8859-1?

and, why terminal setting utf-8 default?

thanks!!

if using gnome terminal can set default encoding gconftool, this:
code:
gconftool --set --type=string /apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/default/encoding iso-8859-1
