Thread: Ubuntu not booting Purple screen

disclaimer

first off i'd state not big user of forums. i'll post somewhere once in blue moon , yelled @ multiple things. please refrain , if wrong please patient.

have spent 3 hours searching on fixes problem , have not found problem quite same mine, nor fix similar 1 worked me.

onto problem..

my problem:

have run ubuntu , windows vista dual boot fine 2 years now. today while working on assignment school in terminal (c coding) compiled work , ran against grading script. @ point screen froze , mouse froze. gave time. tried few hotkeys me out of problem no success.

@ point restarted computer, chose ubuntu (instead of windows vista, usual) , computer went purple screen , after 2 seconds caps lock , scroll lock lights on laptop began flashing , continued doing so. normal ubuntu login screen never showed , after many efforts same results continue.

edits:

1. worth noting used wubi install ubuntu
2. not sure version of ubuntu have think 12.04
3. have no access command line in ubuntu, said doesn't go past me choosing ubuntu start up.

key things note far:
1. purple screen
2. caps lock , screen lock flashing
3. did not sort of upgrade or update prior happening

what have tried:

have tried holding shift in attempt open "grub". needless didn't work. it's worth mentioning don't know grub , nothing of i've read has ever shown up. choose ubuntu when start computer ubuntu loading screen shows couple seconds, login screen appears , enter ubuntu os.

have tried running dskchk , has not worked.

nothing else i've done relevant getting install work..

so here current thoughts:

either of 2 things:

1. fix boot can log in again continue work.

2. find way extract needed files damaged ubuntu can use newly downloaded virtual box on windows ubuntu continue.

@ dead end number 1.

here have done try , extract ubuntu files:

have downloaded called ext2read should allow me @ files on ubuntu windows. installed fine , went c/ubuntu/disks root.disk inside of it. of course cannot either, error message corrupted , cannot read.

conclusion

either 2 scenarios of alot of assistance. readily accept @ time, night working on project , start scratch once ubuntu on virtual box done installing (which @ rate awhile).

, again if i'm doing wrong placement of thread or if reason think question has been answered please refer me thread (however promise tried , unable to).

if should change or add better tags use advice to.

thanks!

wubi relies on ntfs file system , 1 large file. if chkdsk sees issue can cause major issues.

developer of wubi:

agostino: wubi wasn’t designed long-term installations. main aim let people try out ubuntu confidence. normally, users start wubi tend upgrade full installation dedicated partition @ next release cycle.
