Thread: Ubuntu 12.04 constantly reboots.

i have switched ubuntu 10.10 12.04. after doing this, computer reboots several times day , has never acted way before. have average uptime of 3 weeks previous distros on same hardware.

@ point can safely not temperature or fan related issue.

when system reboots, restarts , stays stuck on normal motherboard boot screen. @ point hard reset , when comes on i'll see screenshot of monitor displaying @ moment reset. flashes on second , goes login screen.

'mostly-horizontal, bad-tv-reception-static lines' going across screen evey time start computer since using 12.04. i've seen mentioned in these forums before , i'm trying provide more information. 'static screen' displays right before login screen comes on (even on normal start-up)

before go on, here's of system information:
code:
ubuntu 12.04.1 lts precise 32-bit kernel linux 3.2.0-32-generic-pae (i686) gnome 3.4.2 processor: amd phenom(tm) ii x4 965 processor × 4 biostar motherboard 4gb 1333mhz ram hitachi deskstar 3.5 serial ata internal hdd 1tb
i able recreate crash consistently in 3 different ways @ moment:

*always restarts little bit after starting rip dvd in handbrake.

*always restarts after uploading specific .png image specific site add captions (firefox).

*always restarts when moving files 1 (encrypted, internal) hdd, main (encrypted, internal) hdd. move them external usb drive, hdd , works.

3 ways can recreate problem consistently, it's rebooted during lots of other times such as:

*using default image viewer (alone).
*using vlc (alone).
*using flash in firefox alone (several times, cannot recreate it).
*just starting firefox
*while installing updates in update manager (/usr/bin/update-manager).
*during other normal/basic operations can't remember exactly.

using update manager today, installed apparmor update , rebooted several times while trying install (everything ok point). when reboot myself, every time tried "/usr/bin/update-manager" crash , reboot right away. finished update using update option in task bar , have not tired opening update manager since.

also, while doing @ same time today, began writing post on leafpad (text editor). now, since it's crashed many times, leafpad won't start anymore.

attached "syslog" last 2 hours or so. when apparmor update crashed several times, firefox crashed tried open , leafpad stopped working. tried add post first, timed out trying preview. tried attach txt file had cut 389.1 kb 19.5 kb of missing.

1 more detail can think of add:

once when reset while using handbrake, motherboard screen said: "coms checksum bad" , had tell bios drives boot again restart.

not savvy ubuntu user out there if point me in right direction troubleshoot appreciated. questions are:

how can troubleshoot rebooting business , try stable again?

, (extra credit question), ideas on how leafpad working again?

thanks!

all of you're saying (random reboots, images os displaying on bios messages, cmos corruption) saying 'hardware issue' me. happens if pop onto distro (live cd or whatever) while?
