Thread: Ubuntu Desktop Installation Problems (dual boot)

hi everyone,

new open source platforms thought ubuntu nice start. sadly, i'm having tons of installation problems if i'm googling solutions.

first, tried installing ubuntu via cd of ubuntu, when tried running ubuntu, went did not had network. tried install via cd , here happened.



can see, ubuntu not detect hard drive or internet connection (i'm not using wireless - there ethernet cable connected build-in network card).

tried installing without emulating via cd first. here picture

, here happened when rebooted


followed instructions on forum downloading wubi, extracting iso on folder on destop, using virtual drive open iso... none of them worked out me.

when tried boot via cd post-bios while had wubi installation on logical drive, able emulate ubuntu again not install (same problem first installation (doesnt detect drive/network). when tried close ubuntu, ended screen


led me wonder if overclocked setup cause of problems, stock settings on motherboard nothing changes.

not know wubi. wubi not work on gpt partitioned drives. system booting legacy/bios or new uefi. motherboard i7 processors can use either. , if uefi have gpt partitions.

prefer use flash drives installs, bit faster cd. , of newer versions need larger standard cds. version installing?

ethernet hard wired connections work. , install works better if have working can update drivers , software. may best resolve first, not know lot of details systems work.

nvidia have issues. have nvidia , have add nomodeset on livecd or usb boots , first boot after install. 12.10 had install kernel headers before installing nvidia drivers. use nvidia drives ubuntu offers, new video may need newest nvidia drivers. ubuntu offers several versions 1 or other works most.

how set nomodeset , other kernel boot options in grub2

procedure different flash drive, cd/dvd, , first boot.

if booting in uefi mode things different.

ethernet post these command terminal if can boot livecd.
lspci -v
dmesg | grep eth
# plug in , see if errors:

sudo lsmod | grep e1000e
