Thread: dual boot using two drives one ssd and one hdd

i have 120gb ssd boots straight ubuntu 12.04lts , 320gb hdd dual booting xp sp3 , 12.10 (which keeps crashing @ login screen), use ssd primary drive option boot xp on hdd , when. @ present connect sata cable whichever drive intend booting is possible connect ssd sata1 , hdd sata3 choice boot either? have looked @ 'grub tutorial' bit beyond meagre pc talent, can open terminal , ask questions... gratefully received, thanks..

les

i not sure have answer thinking subject other day when looking @ ssds in computer shop.

suggest examine bios set program machine. seems logical boot process first @ sata port 1 before looks @ sata 2, 3, etc. think can set boot order in bios.

next if boot ubuntu (12.04) on ssd , run

code:
sudo update-grub
both disk drives connected, script run search operating systems on drives. configure boot menu put in ubuntu (12.04) on ssd.

then, when boot bios should first ssd , find grub boot menu list 3 operating systems have in machine.

how reason out.

regards.
