Thread: 8.04 upgrade to 10.04 now low resolution mode on boot

on whim decided upgrade hardy lynx after posting needing scanner work. got problem solved , upgraded.

bad move. think. there 2 issues:

first issue:
on boot error msg of:
low resolution mode
(ee) nouveau: error allocating scanout buffer: -12

boot log error shows monitor listed (dell n1916 lcd monitor) , has display rates listed.

monitor displays fine settings under system/.../monitors show screen size 1366 x 768 , refresh rate 0.

cannot detect monitors. have no proprietary drivers installed , none available through system/hardware/drivers.

assume nouveau isn't compatible nvidia video card , have uninstall nouveau , install nvidia pkgs. don't want blind , guessing. so, of guru's willing talk me through this?

second issue:
not big of deal. on boot i'm getting lot of text/code shouldn't maybe seeing? flashes fast , says "will removed on later versions." lots , lots of lines of code saying fills screen , scrolls upwards.

changes flickering "changing settings" "[ok]" on right side of screen. have booted several times try see going on it's very fast , impossible read.

never had text show hardy. hardware ancient, slow, , @ probable limits works. @ point i'm tired , frustrated trying search answer screen resolution problem. wonderful.

it might idea try botoing live session fist see if everyhtign works before doing upgrade. addtitionally might want have @ 12.04 maybe xubutnu desktop installed rather gnome.

drivers, if had propriatay drivers installed before have remove them first, before doing upgrade.
