Thread: confusion with terminal

when use terminal, lines start with:

user@ubuntu:~$

, type in commands etc. disappears , there's nothing @ start of each line (i.e. if open terminal , type in grep -l file).

way know 'normal' mode user@ubuntu:~$ starting each line close terminal , re-open it. i've tried typing stuff in i.e. exit, quit, q etc. seems ignore enter...

there way normal mode / whatever it's called? or have broken , need make sure things right don't situation (which guess come experience)...

on great.

that means command broken whatever reason. when happens, press ctrl+c interrupt whatever going on.
grep -l file not complete, there no files listed (and interactive mode type scanned text hand), assuming first word pattern want find
grep -options pattern file(s)
