Thread: Yet another GRUB error after upgrading to 12.04.1 LTS

there many combinations of problems concerning aspect of upgrade 12.04.1 lts thought had best itemise 1 also.

expected, after installing upgrade (online), first restart, instead of presenting option boot ubuntu or windows, resulted in

"error : symbol 'grub'xputs' not found
grub rescue> "

neither 'grub-xputs' nor "grub rescue" means thing me.

anyway, using supergrub disk, able newly installed ubuntu , run

sudo grub-mkdevicemap
sudo update-grub2
sudo grub-install /dev/sdx

, have correct grub config file.

bios not find ubuntu mbr (or other mbr). keeps coming same error message.

being tricky, changed boot order in bios make ubuntu hdd (each os has own dedicated hdd), first-to-boot deevice. worked treat. straight grub page required ubuntu , windows options.

came unstick because there no pointer (mouse) function available. ah! these cyber mysteries!

not being able select @ in ubuntu having no touch pad, forced change bios original boot order , can boot ubuntu going boot menu @ bios level , selecting ubuntu hdd.

although clumsy , time consuming method, works well, not way should work.

doing wrong? why isn't bios going ubuntu disc defined in grub config file (and did in ubuntu 10.04 1 lts)?

with multiple disks have careful install grub, , set bios boot disk.

, track pad not working, maybe it's not supported (very rare) or got corrupt during upgrade (that's why clean installs best).

did try 12.04 in live mode first confirm track pad , else works?
