Thread: LVM says volume is full but is not

hi guys,

relatively new ubuntu , new around here. few weeks ago set ubuntu server @ home lamp/media server. post here i'm sure must quite trivial, life of me after couple of days trying , searching cannot find anything....no installed on server, no gui, lvm2, ssh, webmin, virtual box (with 3 machines, 1 lamp, 1 media server , 1 play).

@ moment wanted test on how run usb, i'm waiting hard drive , keep usb backup. , been great (other slow network access, around 10mg/s). there swap lv (logical volumen) in usb wanted either rid of or move 1 of spinning data drives.

"umount"'ed swap lv , add root lv. unmounted 1 of drives(sdb1) , free 6gb. when try create new lv through webmin gives me error:

failed save logical volume :

insufficient free space: 1536 extents needed, 0 available
i repeaded operation make sure had space whatever reason , same thing. tried lvcreate, say:

physical volume /dev/sdb1 not allocatable
no specified pvs have space available
the result of pvdisplay sdb1 be:

--- physical volume ---
pv name /dev/sdb1
vg name ivoryserver
pv size 931.51 gib / not usable 536.00 kib
allocatable no
pe size 4.00 mib
total pe 238467
free pe 2947
allocated pe 235520
pv uuid fclwis-1wk4-fkf1-wnq7-sdpz-fvq0-s0x6hs
so indeed have 2947pe while lvm saying needs 1536. drive has 2 ext4 lv file systems , shrank 1 of them, thought perhaps have delete partition or not shrink it. got exact same procedure accomplished (as describing) in drive . instead in sb1 backup 1 , not heavily used. should missing something....any ideas?

pvs returns:

/dev/sda1 ivoryserver lvm2 a- 931.51g 0
/dev/sdb1 ivoryserver lvm2 -- 931.51g 11.51g
/dev/sdc5 ivoryserver lvm2 a- 14.88g 0
many in advance suggestion/comment.

ok, right, trivial... in case might useful same problem:

i've touch many many things during days without knowing effect of each 1 of them (that's how kind of problem start...but hey, that's way learn) cannot tell sure. somehow i've found little bugger in webmin iterface>logical volume management> physical volume tab> "drive having problems with" details> there radio check box reads "enabled allocation?" , set "no". believe changing bad boy "yes" solved problem.

don't know how change command line there must way (i don't know how got set "no" did make volumes before problem). if knows love learn how.

however, in case not problem, recommend:

cheers all.
