Thread: Ubuntu 12.04 on Lenovo T400 graphical errors

hello-

old laptop died couple of weeks back, , bought new (to me- it's refurb) lenovo t400 replace it. @ first, tried pull ssd old dell d630 , plug new machine, there number of annoying crashes, decided use holiday weekend reinstall scratch.

had space, decided install opensuse on separate partition check out, , runs without issues have been able see- , same goes linux mint running off live cd- ubuntu problem.

machine comes intel gma 4500- not awe-inspiring card, should relatively solid normal use- i'm not gaming on thing, need stable office , task management software.

i'm getting follows:
"sorry, ubuntu 12.04 has experienced internal error."
executable path:
/usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-error-intel.py
package:
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.2
problemtype:

basically, happens system kills cairo-dock, unity, , frames around open windows. guake still work allow me reboot, without fix this, it's system killer me, , have go distro.

doesn't appear bug has been fixed, i'm wondering if has suggestions here- i've tried number of other oses, ubuntu best, , prefer stick it. appears mint not have problem, fail-safe option here.

or advice can offer. know there command restart x, that's bandaid wear thin quickly.

i had same issue either 12.04 , 12.10 on macbook. however, in case there no practical consequences error, i. e. ubuntu still working, decided disable error reporting.
in case seems have serious consequences. in experience, seems problem isolated ubuntu unity, if stay within ubuntu family, check out either of kubuntu (resource intensive), xubuntu or lubuntu. of these share same software base ubuntu, kubuntu has same support period (5 years). xubuntu has 3 years , lubuntu not lts, in case of lubuntu may better install 12.10.
