Thread: Dual Boot on different HD

i want install 12.10 on different hd. have prepared partition, when point in manual install click 'install', box telling me havn't chosen root device or similar.i don't know means. i'm not conversant enough proceed. can please?

are going install ubuntu on second drive?

favor , disconnect other drive(s) avoid mistake of installing it(them). plug in when ready restart machine.

when installing, choose "something else".

should create @ least / (that's root partition, , creating partition , choosing / mount point) , /home partition (which creating partition , selecting /home mount point). may create swap partition. there frequent lively discussions need swap. create 1 if plan hibernate. pretty liberal / , give 20 - 30gib depending on whether expect install lot of software. make swap 1.25 times size of ram , make /home fill rest. left right in partitioning tool want / /home swap.

when shut down, sure plug other drive in before restarting.

on next boot, go bios/efi , make sure boot drive want. if previous drive has windows on it, want new drive first in hdd boot order , need update grub grub find windows , in grub
