Thread: grub loader questions, absolutely not posted anywhere!

hi guys, managed install lubuntu on usb device (the idea create portable linux)

1. after finished installation , update system, when restart, grub menu present me current linux , previous linux version well. how clean menu? want keep size small how clean trace of previous linux versions on usb drive? such backup

2. when update grub, asked choose between install grub on sda (i guess mbr) or sda1 (i guess boot sector of active disk).
should choose? sda mbr or sda1 boot sector?

googled question , response mixed. can system bootup blank mbr , grub installed on sda1 boot sector?

response.
yours sincerely,

grub goes mbr since computer expects find bootloder in mbr. put on partition (like sda1) , never boot, simple that. if want portable usb bootable on computer, correct answer /dev/sda, mbr of usb.
make sure don't put on mbr of computer working on.

submenu previous versions in boot menu doesn't mean previous linux versions. means previous kernels same installation, grouped in submenu called previous versions , 1 kernel, latest shown main option boot in grub boot menu. older kernels in previous versions.
so, unless installed twice on stick, don't worry, have 1 single version.
