Problems creating a book

i trying revise in in design 343 page book lots of photos created in 2008 using pagemaker pretty learned trial , error. not graphic designer.

i have spent hours perusing 3 indesign books , taking online class on indesign , still having major difficulties.

 

i have far converted chapters indesign , done revisions.now need convert 64 chapters book. using book panel, got chapters listed, attempted pagination, , chapters still show individual documents number of pages, not real page numbers. when open individual document pagination correct (i think). 1) how can view book in indesign book , not individual chapters make sure pagination , format correct; easier proofread book; 2) how can change right hand page left hand page within book (they have different format, , don't want add blank page; of chapters created beginning on odd page, yet in book need on page; 3) first 12 pages intro pages, ist 3 no pagination, 4-12 numbered iv-xii; ch 1 starts on page 1. did not understand how paginate sections numbered iv-xii manually , started "real"pagination @ chapter 1. work too? or should section numbering , if how?  4) book has lot of photos. original edition exported pmd chapters pdf , combined pdf chapters 1 pdf book printed , looked reasonably good. or should sending book printer indesign book?  print quality different or better using indesign format opposed pdf?  pdf, didn't need send photo links printer; need if send printer indesign book. 5) experiment tried preflight panel, , got humungous number of errors of overset text take hours fix.  why be?

 

i haven't started index , toc need pagination done first.

do mean page numbers in chapter 2 start chapter 1 leaves off when open chapter two, not when @ numbering in book panel? have updated numbering book panel? book panel shows names of component files , page numbering assigned, there no way view of chapters in layout 1 contiuous thread.

 

pages left or right depending on number. if have master pages objects overridden, careful doing cause page swap sides. of overridden obejects remain, , new master objects added behind them.

 

to start logical page 1 on page not first physical page in book, open file contains page , select in pages panel. panel menu or right-click menu choose numbering , section options, , select option start new section, , assign page number 1. may see error message duplicate numbers can cleared goin same dialog first page inthe document , changing numbering style (typically change numbers front matter small roman numerals) same current page number marker on master page can used automatic numbering in both sections.

 

you can export entire book, when ready, single pdf printer.

 

overset text may effect of differences in tracking between pm , id show in conversion. pagemaker conversions can near perfect useless, , oversets not uncommon. whatever cause, need deal them.
