Why would 32-bit Flash Player be installed on a new 64-bit computer?

hi,

i've 5-day old windows 8.1 computer using internet explorer 11.

the control panel has entry reads, "flash player (32 bit)".

when click on , go "advanced", update options greyed-out - though next check box says, "plug in version - not installed"

by searching hard drive, i've discovered flash player version 12.0.0.38 - ok 64-bit machine?

also, should install missing plug in? (and find it!)

can "un-grey" update options?

any or advise appreciated!

what see in control panel global settings manager... 32 bit app and... per microsoft insistence, must listed (32bit) app in control panel in 64 bit systems.

the flash installer puts both 64 bit , 32 bit plugins on system.

c/windows/system32/macromed

and

c/windows/syswow64/macromed

those file locations plugins.
