creating a transparent background

hi,

 

new member here, bought copy of elements 11.

i have image solid white background, want change transparent background. can't seem work out how make solid white background transparent.

i have saved image psd, used magic extractor hoping highlight retain image , 'highlight' backround become transparent, not seem work way.

any appreciated, thank you.

1. unlock background layer dragging lock icon trashcan
2. get magic wand tool (keyboard w) out of toolbox
3. on tool's option bar check "contiguous". try tolerance=32 start with.
4. click on white background, hit delete on keyboard
5. save in format preserves transparancy
