step numbers don't reset to 1

hi all,

this started in 1 document.

my step numbers not resetting. usually, if have set of steps, new section heading tag h1, h2, or h3, next time use step paragraph tags, steps start @ 1. now, after new heading tag, steps keep incrementing. not in whole document, parts.

 

i inherited template. steps step1. autonumber format step1 s:< >< ><n+>\t

 

in related problem, use step2 a, b, , c steps between numbered steps. tag doing same thing. in 1 section go a, b, c. 2 heading tags later, go d, e, f. autonumber format step2 f:< >< >< ><a+>:

 

for troubleshooting, i've saved file mif, , saved again. art suggested in post,  looked culprit in between sets of steps , found nothing.

i found part of answer own question: template set h2 heading tag resets numbered steps.

i still don't know how reset lettered steps when there no h2's in between....
