Thread: Static IP's, Internet Connection Sharing, DHCP3 Server and headaches!
bit of unusual 1 hoping 1 of people can help...
have moved house , been told isp have wait approx 2 months before can working adsl connection have dig , lay new cable property.
anyways neighbour has kindly let me access internet sharing wifi network key. thing being signal terrible. combat this, have ubuntu laptop set , perched on window sill connects network via wifi , via internet connection sharing through eth0 feeds old wireless router have set "boost" signal in property. when clients connect wifi works fine, addresses given dhcp in range 10.42.0.xx.
here problem - have number of htpc set access ubuntu "server" sits in cupboard , has shares files via samba. htpc's mount samba shares in cifs directly in fstab stating ip address - used work brilliantly! main problem can't reason assign static ip ubuntu server. ideally have server in ip range of 192.168.1.1 , clients connecting assigned address 192.168.1.xx it's own dhcp server laptop on window sill ignored , used "feed" internet connection network.
have been quite comfortable playing , setting dhcp3 servers etc in past 1 stumps me completely.
appreciated!
