Thread: Is my hard disk breaking? "Hard disk boot sector invalid"

i've installed crunchbang linux statler alongside existing ubuntu natty narwhal , when rebooted after install got "hard disk boot sector invalid" message. suspecting installing grub during crunchbang install had caused problem, used super grub2 disc boot (both operating systems work fine, can't use hdd boot) , in ubuntu ran
code:
sudo update-grub
,
code:
sudo grub-install /dev/sda
problem persists. i'm not sure whether hardware error or software error, advice on how fix appreciated; in advance

grub not use boot flag.
windows has have boot flag on primary ntfs partition boot.

bios throw boot error if no boot flag shown on primary partition. check have boot flag on primary partition. (for linux not have 1 use boot from).
