Thread: Ubuntu not logging in

today while using 12.04 locked on laptop. pon reboot did normal check disk after being forced down using power button. insted of coming desktop becuase have set auto log in, put me onto log in screen. when type in password screen go black write few lines go log in screen if logging off right away. when try in tty requires password says "invalid loggin" ideas?

it several things, first thing check see if /etc/password , /etc/shadow files in tact. this, boot livecd, create temporary mount point (/mnt/sda1 example), mount hard disk, , cd down etc directory on hard disk. while there, can wipe out password can log in again after rebooting internal os.
