- burned image disc
- ran installation on pc

delete lines pertaining "deb cdrom" updater not updates cdrom
delete 2 or 3 lines , alls good
time update
- type : apt-get update per document , other references on net
result : "reading package lists........done"
- type: apt-get upgrade download , install
result :
"reading package lists........done"
'building dependancy tree'
"reading state information......done"
"0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 remove , 0 not upgraded"
i'm lost old version, sureley theres updates?
there possibly thats blocking download , updates?
anyway decide lets skip updates , move onto next step
type ip of server on seperate pc on lan - "it works" message
next step
installing telnet
type: apt-get install telnetd
(assuming should download , install telnet)
result :
"reading package lists........done"
'building dependancy tree'
"reading state information......done"
"e: couldn't find telnetd"
i'm stumped , swearing big words
there i'm missing?
running adsl connection router switch. switch distributes connectivity 4 pc's, 1 of them being linux box
appreciated!
7.10 extremely out-dated, , no longer supported.
hence inability updates, it's possible, not worth it.
recommend download later version has long term support = lts
such 10.04 or 12.04 server iso , install there.
both have support 5 years release , more date.
how trying follow old basics same, may want more current guide.
