Thread: After 12.10, no GUI can authenticate for administration, such as Software Center

i upgraded 12.10, , can't use software center or network administration. keeps giving me authentication errors. when check /var/log/auth.log, see:

i found post said change password, i've done (both through ubuntu settings gui tool, , through recovery mode). no avail.

ok, whatever reason, ubuntu 12.10 needs root password set. need to:

sudo passwd

to set root password (who knew). after that, things seem work.
