Thread: Accidentally messed up util-linux, now Kubuntu won't boot
i tried compiling util-linux (version 2.22-rc2) source , used "sudo checkinstall -d". wouldn't install ran "dpkg -i" on .deb file created, , (stupidly) forced install. sort of installed, commands fsck didn't work, tried uninstalling it. running "sudo apt-get install --reinstall util-linux" gave this:
and "sudo apt-get install util-linux" said installed. rebooted , computer won't boot. after enter encryption password, line appeared (i'm not using boot splash):code:apt-get install --reinstall util-linux reading package lists... done building dependency tree reading state information... done reinstallation of util-linux not possible, cannot downloaded. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 remove , 0 not upgraded
then shut down, , computer won't boot.code:mount: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmount.so.1: version `mount_2.21' not found (required mount)
how force reinstall of util-linux?
edit: sent copy of "/bin/mount" other laptop one, , allowed boot successfully, although pretty unstable. there reinstalled bsdutils , bsdmainutils , seems working again.
