Thread: H.D. driving me crazy
please me , tell me i'm doing (or not doing) wrong here. bought used computer 80 gb h.d. working fine in 0 slot windows xp pro. loaded ubuntu 12.04 on , worked great. later, wiped tjhe 80 gb h.d. , added second 250 gb h.d. installed in other slot available on machine , wiped too. cannot ubuntu load onto second h.d. disconnect slot 0 h.d. , configurure machine boot c.d. , start up. screen tells me ubuntu doing something. doessn't what, doing because can see 5 little dots on screen turning red , white sequentially. after while stops. doesn't anything, stops. won't anything. wont eject c.d. when boot windows , in device manager status says device working properly. i've tried 2 different disks , both same thingm, run while , stop cold. suggestions?
1. install 80gb drive slot 0 , 250gb slot 1
2. boot machine bios
3. set boot order cd first, 80gb drive second, 250gb drive third
4. insert ubuntu installer cd
5. boot cd , when shows keyboard @ bottom press key menu if menu doesn't pop up. want install ubuntu.
5. continue install locals (time keyboard etc)
6. select "do else" , set custom partitioning follows:
/dev/sda
create primary partition of entire disk
formatted ext4
mount point of /
/dev/sdb
create primary partition of twice size of physical ram(eg 4gb ram = 8gb partition)
formatted swap
mount point of swap
create primary partition of rest of free space
formatted ext4
mount point of /home
continue install , of personal files , swap stored on dormant 250gb drive , gnu/linux os on 80gb drive. should give best performance plus plenty of space store files. cheers!
