Using the Variable Feature

i have been told using variables in training.  everytime try access variable window (via project --> variables) captivate locks , not anything.  stay way until hit esc several times.  have tried re-entering application administrator still no luck.  feature not installed?  there else need do?  using captivate 7,

that strange, first time hear on forum. questions:

 

• what exact version number, 7 latest 1 7.0.1.237?
• is captivate installed on system, not on networked drive?
• is folder 'my documents' pointing folder on system?
• try inserting text caption, , insert variable using x button in format accordion of text caption: able see variable list there?
