Thread: Dell Latitude E6510 goes blank on boot after upgrade to kernel 3.2.0.32 and to 12.10

same/similar symptoms have been reported many times , have read through lot of material (including sticky post in forum), tried lot of suggestions no avail. possible have missed information, frustrated , have nothing left post here.

have dell latitude e6510 (integrated intel hd graphics). had ubuntu 12.04 64-bit running on it, more or less smoothly. when kernel upgraded version 3.2.0.32 (from 3.2.0.31), not boot more. after grub menu, screen go blank eventually. hear sound effects login screen, there blank screen. no switching ctrl-alt-f1. 'fix' booting previous kernel (3.2.0.31). after while, decided upgrade ubuntu 12.10 (through update manager) hope new kernel (which 3.5.0.18 @ point) fix it. did not.

in last few days, tried suggestions. looked kernel mode switching issue intel graphics. kernel boot options such "nomodeset", i915.modeset=0 (or =1), apic=off, acpi_osi="linux", noapic, nolapic made no difference. purging , reinstalling package xserver-xorg-video-intel fresh driver useless. ran boot-repair live cd (grub updated 2.00). moreover, ubuntu 12.10 live dvd not boot (12.04 does), hence, fresh 12.10 install not possible. apparently, in kernel changed permanently , affects system. still have kernel 3.2.0.31 fall on to.

can see, not expert user. can try provide more , detailed information if can let me know might help.

1) please can indicate boot-info url? ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/boot-info )

2) try last mainline kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa....7-rc6-raring/ if ubuntu 64bit, need install 4 files: *all.deb , 3 *amd64.deb

3) create launchpad account if haven't yet, login account, open terminal (from installed session), , type:
