Thread: Can't get past "Preparing to install"

hi,

have installed , uninstalled ubuntu , of it's variants more once, maybe i'm not absolute beginner, i'm still pretty ignorant.

issue is, when boot ubuntu/kubuntu/xubuntu (even mint) usb stick , choose install it, installation window won't past "preparing install... " part, when checks if have enough disk space, internet connection , power source. wouldn't gets stuck because i'm able quit , works fine, nothing crashes. won't go further when hit "continue".

i've tried booting on pc , managed go beyond part, i'm sure usb stick isn't problem. also, happened distros mentioned, something's wrong laptop. i'm guessing it's got partitions.

hdd partitioned so: window's c: ( ~200 gb); d: ( ~8 gb) , 1 made long ago, isn't unallocated space ( 30 gb)

should erase partition? having no unallocated space somehow causing problem?
can fix/do need while booted usb stick? (presently kubuntu 12.10)

in advance response
