we've heard joke guys in balloon lost when mist rolls in, fetch outside microsoft hq - punch line being when ms answers question answer answer question , factually correct... totally useless.

"what unity?" ask. answer - unity , range of technologies brings simplicity, power , integration both users , application developers. unity puts design, integration , free software @ heart of delivering powerful , attractive experience.

isn't answer question and it's own question. how many languages know? c++, python, java , dozen more haven't quite got grips basics of english. these guys put eek in geek. ever wonder why people pay windows when linux free , better? big part of reason guys writing systems don't/won't/can't speak plain english.

you're right. terrible answer.

first of all:

shell = desktop environment + window manager + few other extras

unity desktop environment. default, ubuntu uses compiz window manager. when people refer "unity shell", referring unity along ubuntu's other default shell parts.

note: best of knowledge. feel free correct me.
