Thread: Microsoft forces fragmentation - DirectX 11.1 exclusive to W8
now surprises me. apparently newest directx w8 only. valve , other game developers ripping on w8, didn't think ms this, not release anyway. directx 11 of course supports w7 , vista.

in other news, apparently surface sales 'modest' according ms, means 'bad'...
microsoft taking wrong route here. looking @ apple, thinking that's business model follow, without realizing reason still maintain desktop dominance because model isn't apple's...
anyhow, while i'm not sure if increase linux adoption, more fragmentation increases multi-platform support, things web apps, jvm, see higher adoption , importance... (which still make our lives easier)
also, pretty bullish on w8, think it's system. think ms making bad business decisions.
i heard microsoft has years of technical debt due emphasis on backward compatibility. while offered large advantages windows application developers, unsustainable in long run.
